Feeding & Swallowing

Feeding & Swallowing

We make eating safer, easier, and more enjoyable by addressing the muscles and patterns that impact feeding and swallowing. Our approach includes:

  • Support for infants with breast and bottle feeding challenges
  • Therapy for picky eating, chewing difficulties, or swallowing concerns in children and adults
  • Exercises and strategies to strengthen oral muscles and promote stress-free mealtimes
  • Guidance and therapy for tongue, lip, or cheek ties that may be impacting feeding function
Feeding & Swallowing

Infant Feeding Therapy

We help babies who struggle with breast or bottle feeding by assessing oral function and teaching strategies that make feeding more effective and comfortable. Parents are guided step by step so mealtime feels less stressful.

Ideal for: difficulty latching, poor weight gain, long or stressful feedings, reflux symptoms, tongue/lip/cheek ties

Pediatric Feeding Therapy

We work with toddlers and children who experience challenges with chewing, swallowing, or picky eating that go beyond normal phases. Therapy builds oral strength and coordination while gently expanding food acceptance.

Ideal for: picky eating, gagging or choking, difficulty advancing textures, mealtime anxiety

Adult Swallowing Support

We support adults who experience swallowing challenges due to medical conditions, surgery, or muscle weakness. Therapy focuses on safe swallowing strategies and strengthening exercises to help with swallowing.

Ideal for: coughing/choking while eating, difficulty swallowing, history of stroke, reflux, or aspiration concerns

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s normal for kids to go through short picky phases, but if your child consistently refuses entire food groups, gags with new textures, or mealtimes feel stressful every day, it may signal an underlying feeding issue. An evaluation can help determine whether therapy is needed.

Yes. Feeding therapy for infants looks at oral function, muscle coordination, and latch. With the right support, many babies improve quickly, making feeding easier for both baby and parent.

Absolutely. Adults with swallowing difficulties, whether from medical conditions, surgery, or muscle weakness, can learn safe strategies and exercises to improve comfort and prevent complications.

We came to Allegiant with a three-month-old who was having issues feeding/nursing after having a tongue and lip tie release. We had been to our pediatrician and lactation specialist, and finally were referred to Allegiant after the baby was not progressing as hoped. I can’t overstate how much we owe Allegiant for helping the baby finally nurse well and without pain. On the first visit, we were educated as to the issues facing the baby, decided on objectives, and left with a plan and exercises to implement. I was impressed with the level of knowledge of our issue and further interconnected areas that ultimately helped our baby holistically improve and thrive. We are quite indebted!
